What are faders used for?
Faders are most commonly used on mixing boards and graphic equalizers, where it is nice to have both an easy way to move the level up and down, and to provide a sort of graphic representation of the relative levels of many channels (or frequencies in the case of an EQ).

What is a fader mixer?
Each channel on a mixer has a volume control (fader) that allows adjustment of the level of that channel. These are usually sliders near the front of the mixing board, although some smaller mixers use rotary controls to save space.
What does gain do on mixer?
On DL mixers, as well as many other digital consoles, the gain control is used to bring the input signal from the source up to a nominal level in the same way as any analog device. Specifically, the gain determines how much the analog audio signal is amplified by the preamp.
