Perfection Pegs are a planetary geared tuner that look just like ebony pegs but provide effortless, stable tuning and replace the need for fine tuners. The way Perfection Pegs work is that the shaft of the peg is affixed to the pegbox with a strong adhesive so that it doesn't turn.
What are planetary tuning pegs?
A planetary tuner is usually a 4:1 ratio, meaning every four rotations of the button creates one rotation of the peg. This allows for some level of precision, while retaining the ability to retune quickly. This is important, since it is common to change your banjo's tuning on the fly.
Can you replace pegs on a violin?
If you are not comfortable changing strings, take your instrument to a violin shop and ask them to show you. They won't charge you and you'll save yourself the trouble of breaking stuff. If the pegs are too small for the holes, take it to the shop and get new pegs. There's an art to making them work right.
Are violin pegs the same size?
There are different sizes of pegs for violas, but they are not really standardized. And a thick violin peg will fit some viola, but the head is likely to be a bit smaller. The taper of the pegs also needs to match the taper of the holes, otherwise tuning will be somewhere in between difficult and impossible.
