What tension should classical guitar strings be?

Unlike with steel string acoustic guitar strings, nylon strings come in differing tensions. The most common tensions are low (a.k.a light), normal (a.k.a. medium) and high (a.k.a. hard or strong). Each tension has different qualities and what you choose will depend on your playing style, sound preference & your guitar.

How much tension can guitar strings take?

It depends on the string, but you might be able to add even, you know, eight, 10 pounds tension depending on how high up you're bending it. So even if you're slightly below the force to break at an open note, once you bend a little bit, that string's just gonna pop.

Does truss rod affect string tension?

Truss rods affect three things that will be covered in detail in this guide: relief, action, and intonation. A truss rod can compensate for the tension in strings, seasonal changes in weather, fret wear, and different playing styles.

What is the difference between high tension and normal tension classical guitar strings?

It follows that high tension strings are generally heavy strings, while normal and low tension are lighter strings. The three treble strings are commonly made of nylon, but can also be made of more dense fluorocarbon.
