Can a dyslexic person play guitar?
Short answer: Yes. It may not be the instrument itself. I would think it is probably more related to the teaching methods used to learn. Playing the guitar is all about fingers, ears and sound.
Are Dyslexics good at music?
Kids with dyslexia have trouble isolating sounds in words and then mapping them back to letters. This weakness may also impact their ability to process sounds in music. They may have trouble perceiving rhythm and pitch, which can make it hard to make sense of sheet music.
Is music dyslexia a thing?
No conclusive case of musical dyslexia has yet been reported (though Hébert and colleagues have come close) and efforts to determine the effects of dyslexia on reading musical notation have been inconclusive. Children in western cultures are taught to read text, but not always taught to read music.
Does learning an instrument help dyslexia?
Musically trained adults have superior abilities in auditory perception compared to their non-musical peers. So it's long been conjectured that musical training may give children with dyslexia a boost in the auditory perception skills they need to learn how to read.
