Can you put a boost pedal in the effects loop?
Unlike overdrive and distortion units, you can run boost pedals either in front of your amp or through its effects loop (if it has one). Running a boost through the front of your amp may be a good choice if it has its own unique character.
What effects go in effects loop?
The most common types of pedals to run into an effects loop are modulation or time based effects. This includes things like chorus, tremolo, delay and reverb. You wouldn't tend to run boosts or drive based effects into the loop as this can overload the power amp section.
Does Boost go before distortion?
If you place the boost before the overdrive, the result will be more distortion and gain, as the input level to the overdrive will be increased. If you place the boost after the overdrive, it will make the overdrive's output louder, allowing you to push the input on your amp harder or to increase the volume for solos.
Where do you put the boost pedal in the chain?
While it may sound like a good idea to place a booster pedal towards the front of your chain in order to send that added voltage out from the get go, some pedals can't handle high levels of voltage which can cause feedback and other problems.
