Yellowing Finish An instruments finish can consist of a color coat and clear top coat or simply a clear coat. With age this clear top coat begins to turn yellow. That means a white guitar may eventually turn yellow and, since blue and yellow make green, older blue instruments can eventually turn green.

Excessive UV light and smoking around it will turn it pretty much brown. Also, if any of the white is plastic it will probably just naturally "yellow" over time.
