Why is sight-singing important

Aural skills are the ability to hear a pitch and know exactly what note it is. Sight-singing helps refine these skills so that the vocalists can understand a piece of music without having to hear it first. It's a very important skill and, let's be honest, a pretty impressive one as well.

Why is sight-reading important?

Even if it's not possible to sing the exact pitches out loud, sight-reading helps the ability to feel the rhythm and get the general direction of the melodic notes and harmony just by looking at the music.

Is sight-singing difficult?

You would start by learning to recognize intervals, i.e., the distance between notes, by ear. Combine this with the ability to recognize the intervals on the staff, and you should be able to, with practice, sight-sing fairly easily.

Most importantly, using Chaos in your lessons helps you rely less and less on that soprano who has been taking private lessons for 8 of her 11 years on the planet! ....and we want all of them to become better Sight Singers anyway...that is a big part of the S-Cubed philosophy!
