When was caged system invented?
Yet, I've hear this particular claim so many times that I think it's worth answering to it. One of the thing I hear more often about CAGED is that it must be a great system because "Hendrix used it". That is an interesting statement, because the CAGED system was invented in the late 70's, but Hendrix died in 1970.
Why is the caged system bad?
1. Because the CAGED scale shapes are limited to 5 patterns, it's impossible to completely visualize scales horizontally from the 1st to the last fret on your guitar. 2. Trying to visualize scales horizontally will make it impossible to use the visual “crutch” of the 5 chord shapes the CAGED system is based upon.
Is caged system worth it?
The CAGED system is worth learning because it brings the fretboard into order by providing a pattern. It increases the speed at which one learns and memorizes chords including the process of learning the major scale. Thus making learning other scales or modes a much more efficient process.
Should I learn caged system in guitar?
CAGED is a useful tool to learn positions and how they interact all around the fretboard. It is not the only way to learn these things but it is a clear and intuitive way. CAGED works fine in any key including all sharp and flat keys so your F and B will not feel left out. I strongly recommend avoiding CAGED.
