Each individual guild generally recognised three ranks of workers: apprentices, journeymen, and masters. A journeyman, as a qualified tradesman could become a master and run their own business, but most continued working as employees.

Once licensed, journeymen can then work towards becoming master electricians. This is done by completing an additional 4,000 hours of work experience over the course of 2 years, and passing the journeyman to master electrician exam. Masters need to show proficiency in: Creating electrical blueprints and building plans.
