For example, the notes C and D are two letter notes apart and so is an interval of a 2nd. But if we look at the notes C and E they are three letter notes apart and so this interval is a 3rd. The notes C to F are four letter notes apart and so would be a 4th.

What is the interval A to F?
The interval between A and F is a sixth. Note that, at this stage, key signature, clef, and accidentals do not matter at all. The simple intervals are one octave or smaller.
