Most post rock bands use heavy reverb and delay, anything from the Boss RV3 (two in one used by Explosions in the Sky at some point) to Eventide's Space/Timefactor or Strymon's seriously high end boxes which can give you an infinite abyss of ambient sound.
What pedals do rock bands use?
The best pedals for rock music are distortion, overdrive, compression and reverb. These will make the biggest difference in adding high quality saturation and sustain. Other useful pedals for rock include boost pedals for soloing, EQ pedals and delay effects.
What instruments are used in post rock?
Post-rock generally applied to bands that used the typical instruments of a rock band—two guitars, a bass, and drums—with nontraditional rhythms, melodies, and chord progressions.
Do I need delay and reverb?
If you just want a fuller sound for recording and live purposes, and your amp doesn't feature reverb (or has a poor quality one, which is quite common), then the reverb pedal is your best bet. If, however, you want to be more experimental, or just want to make your solos sound cool, then go for the delay pedal.
