Scales and chords are interrelated. There are two sides of the same coin. A scale is a horizontal representation of a particular collection of notes and is built up in 2nds; A chord is a vertical representation of that same collection of notes and is built in 3rds.

Should I learn scales or chords first piano?

In general, it's a good idea to start with the major scales first, then move on to the natural minor, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales. Once you master those you can move onto things like chromatic scales, ​blues scales, pentatonic scales and whole tone scales.

How do you know what chords are in a scale?

For every note in the scale, there is a chord that starts on that note. The way to figure out what chords are in a key is to look at each note in the key and use a pattern to figure out each chord. The first note, C, gives us the C Major chord. The second note, D, gives us the D minor chord.

How do you memorize piano chords?

An easy way to remember what notes are in a major triad in any key, is to simply start at the root, then go up four ½ steps to the next note in the chord, then go up just three ½ steps to find the 3rd and final note in the chord. This is true for all key signatures.

What scales to play chords on piano?
