Can a marimba be tuned?
Tuning a marimba, xylophone or any other mallet instrument is not an exact science, as tuners will use different tuning methods based on experience to get an instrument to sound in tune even if they are not "scientifically" in tune.
What key is a marimba in?
The orchestral marimba, with metal resonators, was developed in the United States in the early 20th century by J.C. Deagan and U.G. Leedy. It is a tube-resonated instrument pitched an octave below the orchestral xylophone; its range varies, but 31/2octaves upward from the C below middle C is common.
What is the tuning note for band?
Generally speaking, the primary notes in a band setting for ensemble tuning are concert F and concert B-flat. When introducing intonation with younger bands, the concert F is recommended, especially if a concert B-flat is not fully developed throughout the ensemble.
Are marimbas used in jazz?
Modern uses of the marimba include solo performances, woodwind and brass ensembles, marimba concertos, jazz ensembles, marching band (front ensembles), drum and bugle corps, indoor percussion ensembles, and orchestral compositions.
