What is a trumpet plunger?
PLUNGER MUTE
(Make sure you use a brand new one!) The mute is held in the performer's hand and used to cover and uncover the bell to create a “wah-wah” sound. Using a plunger, an excellent player can make the trumpet sound almost like it's talking!
Why use a plunger with a trumpet?
If the mute is totally sealed to the bell, your notes will break and you will have less control of intonation. The use of a plunger in trumpet playing can range from Jazz to Classical, from Polkas to Taps. This little accessory can drastically change the affect you are striving for with very little expense or effort.
