How do you notate a time signature change?

Time signatures should be shown at the start of a piece and at the start of subsequent movements, if applicable, even if the music carries straight on. They should be placed after clefs and key signatures. If time signature changes occur during a piece or movement, it should be placed immediately after a barline.

Does classical music have time signatures?

Yes, practically any classical piece of music has one or more time signatures (due to having more than one movement, or due to changing it in the middle of one, possibly several times also). The easiest way to find it, is, to look into the score (here: IMSLP).

How does time signature affect tempo?

When it comes to musical notation, a beat in the tempo almost always corresponds with the bottom number in a song's time signature. For example, in a time signature with a 4 on the bottom (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, etc.), the beat corresponds with quarter notes. So, in 4/4, every four beats will take you through a full measure.

How do you tell the time signature of a song?

Looking at a time signature you'll see two numbers stacked vertically. The top number represents the number of beats in a measure and the bottom number is which note value gets the beat. For instance 4/4 means that there are 4 beats in a measure and the quarter note (1/4) gets the beat; four quarter notes per measure.
