What is step loading weights?

Step loading is when you stay at the same weight and increase the volume (sets or reps) before progressing in weight. When I'm using I like to stay at the same weight for 3 to 4 weeks. Here is an example of step loading. In this example, we start off with 160kg 2 x 4.

How do I progress when lifting weights?

The first way you can progress weight training is by changing the sets. By either adding or removing a set you can decrease or increase the volume of the exercise. For instance, if we add a 6th set to our sample bench press we are increasing the volume of repetitions from 25 to 30.
