Do stage monitors need amp?
Passive (unpowered) stage monitors
Before speakers can broadcast sound to the audience, the band's signal needs to be boosted through a power amplifier. This is true for all speakers, whether they're a large, front-of-house speaker array or an onstage monitor.
Can you use a guitar amp as a stage monitor?
Yes you can use a basic guitar amp as your monitor if you have one lying around; but it will not sound as good as a dedicated monitor, as its voiced for guitars ( make sure its on its clean channel !!!). A dedicated monitor will produce a full range signal sounding better.
How do you power a passive stage monitor?
Passive speakers
To set up a passive monitor, connect the outputs of the mixer to the inputs on the amplifier. Then, connect the outputs of the amp to the monitor's inputs. While the inputs on a power amp receive a balanced signal, the amp's outputs send an unbalanced signal.
Do powered studio monitors need amps?
In the case of active studio monitors, you do not need amplifiers as they already are present in them. They have amplifiers incorporated in their cabinet. Studio monitors are devices designed for accuracy in the studio.
