  2. Where should reed be alto sax?

Does the reed go up or down on a saxophone?

If the reed is too hard or if the sound is too dull, move your ligature down and your reed up slightly. This makes it easier for the reed to vibrate against the mouthpiece. If the reed is too soft or if the sound is too edgy, move the tip of the reed up slightly and then move the ligature down a little bit.

Where should reed be alto sax?

Place the flat side of the reed against the flat side of the mouthpiece. Apply minimal pressure to the tip of the reed. Line the tip of the reed to the tip of the mouthpiece I prefer to leave a small gap but this is purely preference seek advice from your saxophone tutor if you are in any doubt.
