Reaper latency

Reaper latency

Whenever you record from an audio input, REAPER uses the audio device drivers information about latency to automatically put what you recorded into time. It's usually pretty close but if the driver isn't telling reaper the right thing, the timing will be slightly off.

How do I read latency in Reaper?

If you monitor through the mixer in the Saffire control panel, the latency will be as close to zero as needed. To determine the latency through Reaper, just look at the menu bar on Reaper. Nope. Reaper only knows what delay it's process is adding and what the interface might tell it.

What is buffering in Reaper?

For quick reference, buffer size — called block size in Reaper — can be set to a lower number to reduce latency while recording at the cost of processing power, or set to a higher number to increase processing power with added latency while recording.
