How should your wrist be when playing guitar?
It is very important that for the majority of the time while playing guitar, your wrist is in a nice and relaxed position. It should not be overly stretched forward or backwards. For most situations, your wrist should be slightly bent forward.
Should your wrist be bent when playing guitar?
The ideal position is to play with a straight wrist, as this produces the best curl of your fingers to fret the strings. With your wrist bent back, your fingers are too flat against the strings; and with your wrist bent forwards, your nails get in the way.
Where should you rest right hand when playing guitar?
Rotate your right hand at the wrist so that the fingers fall perpendicular to the strings and your thumb stays about 1 1/2 inches to the left (from your vantage point) of your index finger. Rest your right-hand thumb and fingers (index, middle, and ring) on the 6th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st strings, respectively.
