Taken from the classical guitar world, the letters in PIMA stand for the Spanish words for your fingers. It's mapped like this: P = pulgar (thumb) I = indice (index finger) M = medio (middle finger)

In P-I-M-A, each finger on your picking hand (for most this you're right hand) is called by the first letter of it's Spanish naming ; P for pulgar (thumb), I for indice (index), M for medio (middle), and A for anular (ring). I have read that the Martin 0,00,and 000 models are ideal for fingerstyle, but I own a D35(dreadnought), and play all styles on it. It's true, the dreads are larger and deeper than the 0 series, but you have to feel comfortable with the instrument, and it's dimensions including the string spacing and nut width.
