So what is the truth? In reality, the difference mostly comes from the height of the pickups or screws at the poles. If you adjust both covered and uncovered pickups to the same height, the sound will be almost the same.

As far as using the no-hole cover, it won't be any different than using the hole variety, except you will lose the ability to fine tune your polepiece height. I installed some no hole covers on my sister's SG some years back, in fact the same Allparts ones you are looking at.
