How can you tell if beats are off?
Off-beat is any even numbered note of the first subdivision of whatever the regular pulse is in a piece. Example- if the regular pulse is quarter notes then the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th eighth notes would be the off-beat. If the regular pulse is eighth notes then the even-numbered sixteenths would be the off-beat.
