Why does my oboe sound out of tune?

First, the oboe tone has comparatively clear focus and projection (even with younger players), so faulty pitch stands out exceedingly well. Second, the stability of the reed directly influences pitch stability so an unstable reed can cause even an experienced player to be out of tune.

Why is my oboe sharp?

Reed too sharp

Sharpness can be due to the opening being too small, the reed being too short, too great an overlap, or too much wood being left on the reed. Sharpness is much less common than flatness. If the opening is too small, there is usually no remedy.
