How do you notate martelé?

Martelé is a French term meaning hammered. Each note is percussive, and commences with a sharp accent or "pinch" at the beginning of the note, followed by a quick release. Before the bow is set in motion, the index finger applies this "pinch" or "bite" for articulation.

What is spiccato violin?

Spiccato is a string technique involving detached notes played with a bouncing bow (the bow comes off the string). Much like the detaché technique, it involves alternating bow strokes (an up bow followed by a down bow followed by an up bow, etc.), but the bow “bounces” off the strings with each note.

Is spiccato an articulation?

Here we get into the differences among three Italian terms used to describe similar, yet distinct, articulations: pizzicato, staccato, and spiccato. They all refer to a short note, yet are performed differently and produce their own sound.

How do you notate with ricochet bowing?

Slam your wrist down between the middle of the bow and the balance point. Count 8 notes in the ricochet. To start a ricochet without raising the bow, raise your right wrist during the up bow. Drop your wrist very fast when your bow is between the middle and the balance point.
