Jamulus latency

Jamulus specify a minimum of 1Mbps both up and downstream, but faster is better and a low ping time is essential. Jamulus recommend the ping time to the Jamulus server (see below) should be no more than 40ms, and the lower the (very much!) better.

How does Jamulus reduce latency?

In addition, conferencing software does not normally allow detailed setting of individual audio streams' volume or panning on the user side, both of which are integral features of Jamulus. To reduce latency as much as possible, Jamulus makes use of compressed audio and the UDP protocol to transmit audio data.

How good is Jamulus?

Is Jamulus audio only?

Each musician (client, in computer speak) will run Jamulus on his/her computer. Clients connect to a server and which relays their audio to all the other clients. Each client mixes the audio from all clients into a single audio signal which is played thru the headphones.

Why can't I hear anything on Jamulus?

Don't hear any sound/Others don't hear you? Start with the simple stuff: make sure your instrument/microphone and headphones are connected to the correct sockets. Make sure no other applications like your browser, video conferencing tool etc. is also using your sound card. You should shut those down when using Jamulus.
