Plosives. The medial phase of a voiceless plosive is complete silence. On a spectrogram, this will appear as a white blank. The quiet vocal fold vibrations in a voiced plosive will sometimes appear as a faint band along the bottom of the spectrogram at the frequency of f0.

What do the colors mean on a spectrogram?

With spectrogram displays, colors indicate vertical displacement. Different colors represent different y-axis values. The color bar at the left side of the display indicates the color scheme used. The VSA shows the range of Y-axis values that the color bar represents above and below the color bar.
