How do you write march?
Most marches are written in a duple meter (or 2). This means they have two beats per measure and a quarter note gets the beat. In 6/8, there are six beats per measure, and the eighth note gets the beat. This meter or time signature has a feel of two.

How do you march in the military style?
At a halt, on the command of execution "March," you raise and lower first the left foot and then the right. The halt executed from mark time is similar to the halt from forward march. To resume marching, the command "Forward, march" is given as the heel of the left foot strikes the ground.
