What do you have to pay attention to when you are sight-reading?
Sight-reading is more than just notes and rhythm! Take a moment to look for any dynamic changes or musical direction notated within the piece. Also, pay close attention to tempo and time signatures to make sure they don't change within the song.
What are the two most important things to focus on when sight-reading?
Intervals of perfect fourth, tritones, and sevenths, both major and minor, are particularly important in sight-reading. Be on the look-out for intervals which can be notated with enharmonic notes that make the original interval look different.
How long should you sight read a day?
Sight-read for as long as you wish. There is so much piano music out there that you will never run out of sight-reading resources! Whatever you do, try to practise sight-reading daily or as often as possible during the week. It is far more beneficial to practise five minutes a day every day than one hour once a week.
What is the most important thing when sight-reading?
The most important point of all: sight read often. The more pieces you play in different keys, timing, styles and character the better you will get at sight reading.
