For standard, full-size humbuckers, a reasonable starting point for the bridge pickup is at least 1/16" (1.5mm) from the high E and 5/64" (2 mm) from the low E.

How far should the bridge pickup be from the strings?
Today Gibson recommends 1/16" (1.6 mm) for the bridge pickup and 3/32" (2.4 mm) for the neck. My own preference is to start with 3/32" (2.4 mm) on the bass side and 1/16" (1.6 mm) on the treble side for both bridge and neck humbuckers.
How far apart should Pickups be?
Start by setting all of your guitar pickups to 3/32” (0.093”, 2.38mm) on the bass side and 2/32” (1/16”, 0.0625”, 1.98mm) on the treble side. Remember, this is the space between the top of the pole piece and the bottom of the string, held down at the last fret.
Where is bridge pick up in guitar?
If the pickup is more than an inch from the base of the neck, you are likely looking at an instrument with a middle pickup. Bridge pickups on the other hand are installed nearest to the bridge, where there is a magnetic string that tracks the guitar string's vibration as it moves up and down.
Can you put a bridge pickup in middle position?
There's a 99% chance that will fix it. If it doesn't, you can certainly move the bridge pickup to the middle, but unless the pickup windings have been damaged (i.e. someone opened your guitar and hit it with a screwdriver) it's just a wiring issue.
