Heavy weight concrete

Heavy weight concrete

Heavyweight concrete is made from aggregates with a density between 2,080 and 4,485 kilograms per cubic meter (or between 130 and 280 pounds per cubic foot). These aggregates are much less porous and absorbent, and the resulting concrete has a higher mass-to-volume ratio.

Where is heavy weight concrete used?

Heavyweight concrete is principally used for radiation shielding, counterweights and other applications where higher density is desired. Except for density, the physical properties of heavyweight concrete are similar to those of normal - or conventional- weight concrete.

What is the heaviest concrete?

Standard reinforced concrete is 150 pounds per cubic foot when dry, but there are "light" versions that may be under 100 pounds per cubic foot, or as heavy as 300 pounds per cubic foot.

What is high density concrete?

High density concrete (HDC) consists of concrete with a density higher than normal 2300 to 2550 kg/m³ and is used for special purposes such as radiation shielding, counter weights, ballasts, safe walls and safe roofs.
