On average, people experienced a faster heart rate when listening to music with a faster beat compared to listening to music with a slower beat. Males and younger people (<35 years of age) experienced a larger change in heart rate compared to females and older people.

Does music tempo affect heart rate?
In our study we have found that while fast tempo music increases the systolic and diastolic blood pressure, slow tempo music does have a calming effect as evidenced by the significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure and also the heart rate and respiratory rate though not significantly.
Does your heart sync with music?
After reviewing past research, authors found that music is associated with a number of markers of heart health. First, studies suggest that compared to silence, music tends to increase heart rate and speed up breathing. Faster music also speeds up heart rate and breathing more than slower music.
What tempo is the heartbeat?
Allegro moderato—moderately quick (112–124 BPM) Allegro—perhaps the most frequently used tempo marking (120–168 BPM, which includes the “heartbeat tempo” sweet spot) Vivace—lively and fast (typically around 168-176 BPM)
Why does fast tempo music increase heart rate?
When we are exposed to slow beat music the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated decreasing the heart rate and while listening to fast beat music the sympathetic nervous system is stimulated and increases the heart rate.
