What are ohms in guitar amps?

You want the resistance of your head to match the resistance of your cabinet. For instance, your guitar amp says 4 ohms next to the speaker jack on the back. Simply make sure that your speaker cabinet is also 4 ohms. Some amps can operate at 16 ohms, 8 ohms, 4 ohms, or even 2 ohms.

Can I use a 8 ohm speaker with a 4 ohm guitar amp?

For an "ideal" SS amp – an "on-paper model" without limitations; changing the load (speaker) from 4 ohm to 8 ohm will reduce the max Wattage that can be drawn by the speaker by 50% – an amp that can deliver max 56 Watt into a 4 ohm speaker can then deliver max 28 Watt into an 8 ohm speaker.
