What are violin finger positions?
A number is assigned to each of the fingers of the left hand that press the strings. The index finger is 1, the middle finger is 2, the ring finger 3, and the little finger 4. The hand position at which the first finger plays a note two steps higher than that of the open string is called the first position.
Where do you put your first finger on a violin?
Once you've tuned your violin, place your first finger about two inches down from the top of the fingerboard on the G string and pluck the string. Look at your tuner and move your finger around until the tuner reads A and lights up green with the tuner needle in the middle of the dial signifying that your A is in tune.
