How does fender tuner work?

The Fender Tune app, which is now available for iOS devices, uses the built-in microphone to enable guitar players to stay in tune. The app, which is one of many tuners available in the App Store, works in much the same way. Users pluck a string and adjust sharp/flat until the desired note is centred.

Why is my tuning peg not turning?

The button screws should be snug but not so tight that the gears are hard to turn. If your guitar has wood buttons, and one just spins without raising the pitch of the string, the metal insert in the button may have stripped. To fix this, remove the button from the gear.

How does a clip tuner work?

A clip-on tuner works in a slightly different way. It has a contact microphone built-in. This detects very low-level vibrations. The clip-on tuner is clipped on (bet you didn't guess that… ;-)) to a guitar headstock (electric or acoustic), and it detects string pitch from the vibrations through the guitar.
