What key signature is Fantaisie-Impromptu?
Both Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata are in the key of C sharp minor, and they have a lot in common tonally and harmonically (especially the third movement of the sonata).
How difficult is Fantaisie-Impromptu?
Re: How hard is Fantasy Impromptu? The book "Chopin: A graded practical guide" by Eleanor Bailie rates Fantasie Impromptu as Grade 8+, just below the Very Advanced rating. It is not horrendously difficult once you conquer the polyrhythms. There is a slow "moderato cantabile" middle section which is quite easy.
When was Fantaisie-Impromptu written?
Fantaisie-Impromptu was written in 1834, but it wasn't published until 1855, after Chopin's death. In fact, the composer may not have wanted us to discover the work at all – among Chopin's dying wishes was the request to not release unpublished manuscripts posthumously.
What level is Fantaisie-Impromptu?
In the RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto)) piano syllabus, Chopin's Fantasy Impromptu is considered diploma-level.
