How do you restore a drum skin?
Re: Genuine skin drum head: How to restore? Try rubbing a little Shae butter (on your finger tips) into the dry head. If you soak them to clean them use cold water and don't soak for too long. The shae butter or some lanolin based leather conditioner will put a little life back into the skins.

What does tightening a drum skin do?

Tightening the tension rods causes the pitch of the drum to go up; loosening the tension rods will lower the pitch. Drum keys can also be used to adjust hardware such as hi-hat stands and kick drum pedals.
