How are humbuckers wired?
As you can see, a normal humbucker is wired by connecting the Outside Leads of each coil together, and sending the Slug Inside Lead to ground, and the Screw Inside Lead to the switch (hot).
Are humbuckers pickups wired in series or parallel?
The two coils in a humbucker are typically wired in series. This produces the highest output, but also the darkest tone. If a humbucker has a 4-conductor harness, its coils can easily be wired in parallel.
What is the point of 3 humbuckers?
Humbuckers do put out more volume than a single coil at the same set volumes, so for example, someone may want a middle humbucker instead of a single because that person likes the sound of the middle pickup, but may want more chunk out of it.
