First, avoid placing it in front of a window – especially a single pane design. Direct sunlight and exposure to the greater temperature changes can damage the finish and cause premature aging. It can also cause it to go out of tune more quickly.
Where should you not put a piano?
Pianos can be placed near outside walls as long as it is away from open windows and doorways. A piano should not be near air vents, fireplaces, areas where high temperatures can affect it.
Is sunlight bad for a piano?
Direct sunlight is harmful to your piano. It can fade the finish (even causing the veneer to delaminate), and the uneven heating of the wood, strings and plate is a great challenge to tuning stability.
How hot is too hot for a piano?

Room temperatures of low to mid 70's in the summer and mid to upper 60's in the winter are ideal but unless pianos are exposed to extreme heat of above 90 degrees, or close to freezing cold temperatures under 38 degrees, for extended periods of time they are not likely to be damaged.
