What is CAGED? The CAGED system of scales for the guitar is based around these 5 chords: The theory is that each of these chords (C, A, G, E, D) has a scale position that naturally emerges from the chord.
Is the caged system major or minor?
The minor CAGED system is essentially the same. However, instead of using major chords to map the fretboard, you use minor chords to accomplish the same thing. Learning the CAGED system greatly opens the door to understanding the layout of the guitar fretboard and how the notes and patterns are interconnected.

As you may have noticed, in the key of C, using the scale diagrams that we did, we started with the 'A shape' of CAGED.
What is caged pentatonic scale?
The answer is five. If you learn five different shapes for a given scale, you can play that scale all over the fretboard. The name 'CAGED' is derived by associating each of the five shapes with a corresponding chord shape (C + A + G + E + D = CAGED).
