Are boost pedals worth it?
The benefit of running a boost pedal through an effects loop is that it will be a cleaner and “purer” boost, rather than one that adds any other tonal artefacts. Boost pedals are therefore a great addition to any pedalboard, and can be your secret weapon especially when playing live.
Can a boost pedal damage amp?
Super, mega high output boost pedals (beyond anything you're likely to find commercially) could fry the input stage of a solid state amp. Octave down pedals at super high volumes into a loud amp could mess up speakers, but a lot of amps these days can handle that just fine.
What does a pure boost pedal do?
A clean boost pedal is designed to deliver uncolored, “transparent” gain, much like a microphone preamplifier. These are perfect for situations in which you want to hit the front end of your guitar amplifier harder than your pickup can naturally.
What's a boost pedal?
Boost pedals are essentially an amplification stage in a box. They can be used to add more volume to your guitar signal for leads, or to smash your tube amp into searing saturation for heavy rhythm sections, making them a worthy addition to your pedalboard.
