How do frets work on a bass?
Number of Frets
Each fret is a note. The more frets you have, the more notes there are on each string. In most styles of music you won't be playing in those upper frets much. If you plan to play a lot of solos, you may find them very useful.
What steering technique is used to play the bass?
In the slap technique, the bassist replaces the usual plucking motion of the index and middle fingers with "slaps" and "pops". In the slap, the bassist uses the thumb to strike the strings (usually the lower E and A strings) near the base of the bass's neck.
