Is the snare on the down beat?
Usually you have a snare drum beat that is directly below the X on counts 2 and 4. This is called a "BACKBEAT" as you learned in lesson one. By adding bass drum on downbeats in the first example on this page we now have a complete backbeat using three limbs!
What beat do most snare hits fall on?
In most genres, the snare is found on beats 2 and 4 (the backbeat), providing a sense of push and forward motion. However, it can be displaced, and extra hits introduced, to create variations and syncopated beats.
Are punk drums hard?
Think of punk rock drumming as similar to hard rock drumming, but played much faster. Over the years, this style has become more and more aggressive and extreme (especially when it comes to tempo) and has broken down into further subgenres such as hardcore punk, crust punk, and ska punk.
