How do you alternate pick smoothly?
Alternate Picking Tips
- Grap the plectrum comfortably between your thumb and index finger.
- Make sure only a small part of your pick is protruding from your fingers. ...
- Place your pick at a 45 degree angle with the strings, so the flat part of the pick is not totally parallel with the string.
Why is alternate picking so hard?
Because in the first case, during motion, your pick stays “outside” the E and B strings, while in the second exercise the pick remains “inside”, trapped between the E and B strings. This is, in a nutshell, the main difficulty with alternate picking.
