Are guitar tuning pegs universal?

Unless you are changing to a set of tuning pegs that have exactly the same specifications as the set that is currently on the guitar, some modifications will have to be done to the guitar to be able to install the new set of tuning pegs.

Can you replace tuning pegs?

If you looking to change your tuning peg then replacing it with the exact same machine is usually the best option. However, there are circumstances when this may not be the best option depending on the type of guitar you have.

Do tuning pegs make a difference?

There is a difference between the el-cheapo tuning pegs on a cheap guitar and those on a quality built guitar. Replacing them will very likely make a noticeable difference. They tend to be smoother and hold tension a bit more securely.

Are all guitar tuning pegs the same size?

Most modern tuning pegs will have a standard hole size of 10 mm (13/32”) whereas vintage will often be at the 9mm (11/32”), so it's not a huge thing to worry about when ordering tuning pegs. It's good to just pay attention to what size you're ordering.
