You will remember that there are two kinds of passing note, the unaccented and the accented. Unaccented passing notes fall between the chords. They are the most common type of passing note. Accented passing notes fall on the beat, pushing the chord note off the beat.

What is an accented passing note?

If a passing note occurs with the second chord (instead of in the middle of the two chords), it is called an accented passing note. A neighboring tone (NT) is approached by step and then returns by step to the original note.
