When should I use a multiband compressor?
Multiband compression is best used to solve problems on individual tracks. I use it rarely – perhaps in only 1 out of 10 mixes. When I do, it's typically on vocals, but I'll occasionally use it on other tracks as well. Maybe an acoustic guitar is too boomy, but only on certain notes.
What does a multiband compressor do?
A multiband compressor splits the frequency spectrum into separate bands. Each frequency band also has dedicated compression settings. Applying different amounts of compression to the separate frequency ranges gives you more control. A multiband compressor is essentially an EQ and a compressor in one.
Are waves compressors good?
The Waves C1 Compressor is an excellent choice if you're looking for a more basic looking compressor; while still wanting all the essential parameters needed. The C1 is a great all-around compressor and I use it on everything from basic drum tracks to sub-mixes and group buses.
