Should slurs encompass tied notes?
Slurs should be drawn connecting or encompassing note-heads. A common mistake by students is to draw slurs connecting stems. The exception to this general practice occurs when a slur is drawn over note stems that change direction.
Do you count tied notes?
When Counting Ties, "one" tie has a beginning (first) note and an ending (second) note. Even if the tied notes are on different lines, the tie is still counted only as "one", as you play the beginning (first) note and hold it down through to the end of the second note.
