Saxophone is a woodwind instrument. Trumpet is a brass instrument. Saxophone basically consists of a conical tube flared at the tip to form a bell. Trumpet consist of a brass tubing bent twice into a rounded oblong shape.

Long-term, both instruments require a sensational amount of control to produce beautiful music. In some aspects the trumpet requires more conditioning, and the saxophone in others. Short-term the saxophone is probably easier for most. Trumpet is definitely more painful and disrupts the embouchure more.
