Does phantom power affect line inputs?
As we've said before, phantom power (see WFTD archive phantom power), while not being dangerous to most modern microphones, can fry the output electronics of some line level devices. Anytime you have a line level device plugged into a mixer input you should make sure that phantom power is off on that channel.
Can phantom power go through a jack?
Phantom power is not exclusive to XLR cables and can pass through TRS. Therefore, when it is turned on, +48v (Phantom Power) is running to all of the selected microphone inputs.
Can I plug a line into a mic input?
Line inputs are not designed for microphones. Although it is possible to use them and it won't harm your mic, there is not enough gain to amplify the microphones level to a line input.
What happens if you plug a microphone into a line level input?
Connecting a microphone to a line-level input will result in almost no sound at all because the mic signal is so faint that the line input cannot hear it.
